Mitch Albom did a great job in illustrating a different possibility of what could happen in heaven and how different an afterlife can turn out to be from what one has ever thought. Well, there are multiple possibilities of how heaven and the afterlife could be, this one is the author’s version of the afterlife where, when someone dies, they meet the people who they had already met on earth, one may or may not remember them, but the people they encounter had played an important role in shaping their life.
On earth, we get WHAT of things. The WHY takes a little longer
Annie had a harsh childhood, starting from an emotionally unavailable mother who thought she was protecting her daughter to a failed relationship filled with loneliness and despair, but things weren’t always this bad. Her life took a major turn when Annie met with an accident at the ruby pier (an amusement park) when she was a kid, which left her with a scar on her left hand and a big gap in her memory as she was unable to recall what happened at the park, after the accident her mother, ravaged by her guilt became way too cautious about her daughter and started controlling her which in turn pushed Annie away from her mother.
she always thought that she isn’t worthy enough to be loved and that she would never find someone who will adore her until she met Paulo, her childhood friend who had moved to Italy when they were merely 14 yrs old. They got married and were happy, just when she thought things were going smoothly and there was nothing to stress about, an accident took place in which they both were seriously injured and that is when Annie started her journey to heaven, where she meets 5 people who are responsible for giving her 5 important lessons which make her understand the meaning of her life. The first person she meets in heaven is Eddie, the maintenance guy who died saving her at the amusement park.
The next person you meet in heaven is a sequel to Five people you meet in heaven, which explains Eddie’s journey to the afterlife. So even if you haven’t read the 1st part you will still be able to understand the 2nd, cause stories aren’t really interconnected.
All endings are also beginnings
